Andrew
is given specific training in fields such as biological
and chemical characteristics of seafood, spoilage and
shelf life, public health requirements, quality assurance
and promotion and marketing.
The
image of fish and chips will change in the next few years.
Presentation and environmentally friendly packaging will
become a high priority. Atmosphere within and around
the shop will demand a sense of community. As this generation
of employees introduces technology to the workplace,
Andrew and his team spend time working “on” the
business as all facets of systems are integrated. Direct
communication with customers is now easier and customers
can be notified when their favoured fresh seafood arrives.
The
image of fish and chips will change in the next few years
and Andrew and young men and women like him will be part
of that change. Presentation in environmentally friendly
packaging will become a high priority. Atmosphere within
and around the shop will demand a sense of community.
This generation of employees will introduce technology
to the
workplace and that will have a profound affect on the
industry as all facets of systems are integrated.
For
Andrew just doing the job is not enough. His job must
provide purpose and energy.
Octopus’s
Garden was set up ten years ago with a commitment to
market the freshest seafood to the Cooloola region. It
is now far more than that.
It
has become a place where Andrew and teenagers like him
can show they care; show their passion, their power,
excitement, integrity and outrageousness, their commitment
and their ability to learn about this diverse industry. |
